Tasting Table Budapest — Taste Hungary
Tasting Table Budapest (Taste Hungary wine tasting)

Tasting Table Budapest

Visiting Hungarian wineries is a special experience. Winemakers personally welcome you at their tables (as opposed to serving wine from behind a bar), pouring generous glasses of wine as they reveal the details of their wines, terroirs, and personal histories. At The Tasting Table we hope to recreate this quintessential Hungarian wine experience in the city.

Come sit at our table and discover delicious Hungarian wines, and the stories behind them. Drop by to buy a bottle of wine to enjoy at home. Or have a seat at our communal tables, where we serve glasses and flights (along with artisan cheese and charcuterie boards). Our sommeliers are always happy to chat. We focus on educating our guests about Hungarian and Central European wine and food culture, and we offer wine tasting classes and are available for private functions.

Before we opened The Tasting Table we spent months scouring Hungary in search of the best cheese and charcuterie to pair with our wines. We visited farms, butchers, cheesemakers, markets, and artisan producers all over the country in search of the best cheese, charcuterie, jams, and other delicious products. Our signature cheese and charcuterie boards—which are served with fresh bread, assorted accompaniments, and hand-crafted artisan oils (such as pumpkin seed, walnut, and poppy seed)—are perfect complements our 200+ types of wine from around Hungary and the region.

Our cheese selection includes an ever-changing range of local small-batch cow-, goat-, and sheep- cheeses. We have hard cheeses (which work equally well with white wines with high acidity and fruity reds), parenyica (a smoked and steamed cheese, which is woven into a spiral), soft ripened cheese (which we like to serve with crisp Hungarian rosé), mould-ripened mountain cheese (goes great with dry whites), and soft blue cheese (perfect with sweet Tokaji aszú).

Our range of charcuterie makes a perfect match with nearly any wine. Our selection includes several kinds of salami (some with paprika added, some with plum added, and some natural), mangalica pork sausages, free-range water buffalo salami, smoked duck and goose breast, grey beef sausage, goose cracklings, and more.
