Description
The deep golden, honey color of this wine makes this look like a sweet wine. But, as is typical in Tokaj, this is a dry wine with sweet flavor sensations, and plenty of Tokaj minerality. Hárslevelű is a native Hungarian varietal that makes richly-textured, full-bodied wines. It’s the second most important grape (behind furmint) in the Tokaj region. Hárslevelű is best known for its important supporting role in the sweet Tokaj wines, but it is also a brilliant single varietal wine (made in dry, sweet, and off-dry styles). This Hárslevelű by Budaházy Fekete-Kúria is a highly aromatic wine with many complex aromas happening from fruitiness (ripe apricots and peaches) to floral blossom aromas, and the honeyed, dried fruit, and smoky characteristics that are pure Tokaj. The name hárslevelű means “linden leaf” in Hungarian, referring to the linden-like aromas that the wine takes on as it ages. This wine has a long finish, with subtle signs of oak. It would be great with cheese, charcuterie, and foie gras. This wine is one of the very first from this ambitious family-owned winery in Erdőbénye, a charming village in the Tokaj region which is famous for its traditional cooperage industry.
