Description

A subtle and complex old vine Kadarka from Péter Vida, a winemaker who is meticulous in his pursuit of elegance and finesse. Harvested on September 24 from free-standing bush vines planted around 1920 on the calcareous-loess and red clay soils of the Lisztes völgy and Bödő vineyards. Fermented for 10 days, which was followed by malolactic fermentation. Aged for six months in steel tanks and for two months in used 1,200-litre barrels. Pale ruby colour, playfully fragrant and varietally pure aromas of rose hip, raspberry, strawberry jam, green herbs and various spices. Light and airy on the palate but with good length and distinctive notes. Kadarka is often described as the Hungarian version of Pinot Noir and has a huge local following. Very good with lamb, poultry, veal and duck, as well as Hungary’s paprika-infused halászlé (fish soup), but also light enough to be enjoyed by itself.
