Description
The name Szamorodni derives from a Polish word which means “as it is born,” is an ultra-traditional category of Tokaj wine. It is produced using all the berries on the bunch—which in Tokaj means a mix of healthy grapes and botrytized ones. Szamorodni wines are individual characters, which do not depend fully on botrytis (like the more famous Tokaji aszú wines do) to dictate their personality. This wine is golden with cool spices and bright notes. It has a clean youthful nose with scents of apricot, quince, and apples. It is a full-bodied, sweet wine which tastes of anise, tropical fruit, candied citrus peel, orange, and grapefruit, with a slightly peppery finish. Oremus, one of the outstanding wineries in the Tokaj region, has an incredible labyrinth of a cellar system (more than 500 years old), where this wine was aged. Try this wine as an alternative to a richer, sweeter (ane more expensive) Tokaji aszú.
