Description

Predominantly a Left Bank Bordeaux-style blend comprising Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), though with a local twist in the form of 10% of Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch in Austria). The vineyards of the Siklós sub-region from where the grapes for this wine come from are high in limestone which helps preserve the acidity to give this wine good structure to compliment the natural southern ripeness. Fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks at 27-30° C, then aged in used Hungarian barriques and double-barriques for 22 months. Deep ruby-purple color, with ripe black fruit, dark chocolate Christmas spices, green herbs, pepper and cedar on the nose and palate. Medium plus bodied, with beautifully integrated oak that adds an extra dimension to the abundant fruit. The winery is owned by a German-Swiss couple, Erhard and Evelyne Heumann, while the winemaker, András Theisz, is Hungarian.
